DataPro Solutions has worked with district health boards (DHBs) and other health care providers for over 12 years helping them to run their organisations efficiently and manage their data effectively.
Examples of the systems we have developed within the health care sector include:
In addition we have also helped with gathering patient feedback. Please click here for more information.
Members of the management, clinical and administration staff for DHB and other health service providers have all seen benefits from our work, including:
Increased efficiency – decreased staff time to input data as the system is built specifically for their needs, In some cases patient data had previously needed to be manually entered more than once into different systems and in some cases ‘work-arounds’ had been implemented.
Decreased staff time to run simple tasks, as automated communications have been built in, such as appointment letters to patients, follow-up letters to GPs and surgeons.
Decreased scope for error – due to the linkage across systems patient details are able to be seen by all relevant authorised staff and are only in one database, rather than replicated across many.
Secure access – staff access to any database can be restricted by a secure access password, meaning different staff can have access to different data according to their role, meaning patient confidentiality remains paramount.
Provided quality management information from survey data to support decision making processes.
Other potential macro-level benefits include the:
We have developed a number of patient management systems for different departments of CDHB (Canterbury District Health Board), for example Urology, Gastroenterology and Burwood Spinal Unit. Each system is built to specifically meet the exact clinical needs of the users, including specific clinical data, terminology and reporting.
Some of these systems are stand-alone, while others have been built by DataPro Solutions to interface with CDHB’s central patient management database, meaning patient information is linked between individual departments across the DHB.
Richmond NZ is a major national provider of community mental health and support services. DataPro Solutions has developed a number of systems for Richmond NZ, including an application to meet Ministry of Health data reporting and compliance requirements for their PRIMHD (Programme for the Integration of Mental Health Data) project. We have also worked on a number of smaller systems in relation to finance and staff training.
We managed a process to extract, analyse and report on West Coast DHB’s mental health patient data for the Ministry of Health’s MHINC (Mental Health Information National Collection) project which was in operation before the current PRIMHD structure.
DataPro Solutions has completed a redevelopment of CDHB’s Pathology billing system. This system was previously a legacy system written in PowerBuilder/Sybase and was no longer supported. We redeveloped this system using Microsoft .Net/SQL replacing existing functionality and adding in additional functionality that was required.
The Princess Margaret Hospital in Christchurch recognised the need to track hospital equipment much more effectively in order to identify where loaned items were, ensuring costs were managed more tightly and departments didn’t have to replace items that had been ‘misplaced’. DataPro Solutions worked with the Princess Margaret Hospital and developed an equipment tracking database for hospital equipment that was taken out on loan. This has helped to deliver considerable capital cost savings through reducing the occurrence of items not being returned.
As well as working with Canterbury District Health Board, DataPro Solutions has worked with a number of other health care organisations including:
The Alcohol Drug Association NZ (ADANZ) and DataPro Solutions have worked together on a number of systems. We have developed applications to manage the ADANZ Help Line, their national directory of service providers and their own internal contact management system
We have worked on a number of projects for the Christchurch School of Medicine. The main project has been the development of their LIBIS (Library Information and Billing System) which we developed 12 years ago and continue to support today. Other projects have included a purchase order system, a student information management system and a system to manage data specifically on postgraduate nursing students. We have also managed a survey of where various health professionals gain their information from.
